Legislative and Regulatory Issues Impacting APCO Members

APCO International August 8, 2022 APCO, Government
Monday, August 8, 2022 | 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Moderated by Mark Reddish, Senior Counsel and Manager of Government Relations, APCO International; Panelists: Jennifer Reese, Assistant Director, Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency; Renee Gordon, MBA, SHRM-CP, CPE, ENP, Director, Alexandria Department of Emergency and Customer Communications; Paul Jokerst III, Executive Director, East Central Dispatch Center

APCO’s Senior Counsel provided an overview of some of APCO’s top legislative and regulatory priorities – the 9-1-1 SAVES Act, the PROTECT 9-1-1 Act, 9-1-1 location accuracy, and network outage notifications – and a panel of 9-1-1 professionals described how these issues impact emergency communications centers. On the issue of fixing the federal classification of 9-1-1 professionals, Ms. Gordon said, “These men and women give lifesaving instruction and not recognizing them as a protective service occupation is an insult.”
