Telewave Introduces Advanced VHF Wide Band iDAS Duplexer for Public Safety Applications

Company Representative August 10, 2019 Product & Service Announcements

Baltimore, MD (August 8, 2019)—Telewave, Inc., a world leader in premium enterprise RF telecom equipment including test and measurement devices and services, today introduced a new VHF Wide Band in-building Distributed Antenna System (iDAS) Duplexer, adding to its comprehensive family of advanced telecom products engineered specifically for public safety applications. The company made the announcement at APCO 2019, APCO International’s Annual Conference & Expo for public safety communications officials.

The new duplexer boosts Telewave’s iDAS effectiveness, providing more coverage and added capacity in critical areas such as tall office buildings, tunnels, large buildings made of reinforced steel or concrete, parking garages, stadiums, airports, shopping malls, and secluded, rural or hilly areas.

“Our unique VHF wide band iDAS solution solves challenges facing property managers and first responders who require support for VHF and UHF in-building communications,” said Telewave President Bob Saffari. “It provides maximum isolation in a small form factor, ideal for installations with minimum space restrictions. We’ve created a complete, turnkey solution by partnering with bi-directional amplifiers (BDAs) OEMs, ensuring dependable communication coverage for first responders when they need it most. And our products can work with multiple carriers, requiring minimal carrier involvement for fast deployment at low implementation cost.”

With a longstanding commitment to public safety, for over 45 years Telewave has been a world leader in premium quality wireless, land mobile radio RF systems, telecom test and measurement equipment, and engineering services. Ahead of many others, the company pursued innovations in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for public safety, recognizing dangerous systemic problems with coverage in areas that cannot be effectively addressed by traditional infrastructure. Telewave’s sophisticated approach helps overcome shadowing and penetration losses by increasing the number of line of sight links. Moreover, DAS can closely align capacity to actual market requirements, deftly managing available radio resources.

“We see the global picture and have aligned our strategy accordingly,” noted Saffari. “By 2025 the DAS market will almost double, from $2.7 billion today to $4.9 billion by 2024, with the public safety segment showing the fastest growth.  Along with market acceptance, demand for Telewave’s product suites and services in this sector has risen exponentially. We’ve designed and built our DAS solutions to function as a scalable network that can meet future larger capacity requirements–or plug in extra carriers–by adding additional nodes.”

“Given the increasing pressures on public safety telecom infrastructure from weather, world events and digital communications requirements, we’re increasing our focus on in-building DAS,” Saffari added. “Telewave’s new VHF Wide Band iDAS Duplexer can deliver what is missing in the marketplace. At this critical juncture in telecomm evolution, Telewave is acting as a crucial bridge in the industry for not only supporting legacy (VHF and UHF) public safety infrastructure, but also seamlessly connecting it to the latest and greatest 5G and CBRS for in-building applications.”

Telewave’s VHF wide band iDAS duplexer for public safety can be packaged with Telewave indoor iDAS Appeal™ and outdoor HP Series antennas, cabling, couplers and splitters. This duplexer provides effective filtering for the donor subsystem and server side of the VHF (148 and 174 MHz) BDA. The duplexer easily mounts in a standard 19 inch rack on front or center cabinet rails.
