Solacom Leads Cybersecurity Discussion at APCO 2018 Conference
CHICAGO, Ill., July 31, 2018 — Experts from Solacom, Oracle, and Alabama’s largest public safety answering point (PSAP) shared important insights on cybersecurity at the APCO 2018 Conference in Las Vegas this week. PSAPs attending the panel Cybersecurity 101: What Every PSAP Needs to Know, took away essential knowledge about protecting an emergency call handling and management system from a potential cyberattack.
Many PSAPs across the country have recently fallen victim to malicious attacks by hackers who can disrupt and crash emergency 9-1-1 services. This informative session identified the variety of threats that are out there, outlined the safeguards every PSAP must put in place to avoid an attack, and steps PSAPs can take to recover if they’ve been targeted.
Led by Gilles Ferland, Solacom’s vice president product management, the panel also included Brian Knueppel, sales engineering manager at Oracle, and Chris Tucker, director of Huntsville-Madison County 9-1-1.
Due to the high demand for reliable information about cybersecurity for public safety communications, this one-hour, multimedia panel discussion with audience Q&A ran twice during the conference.
