APCO Files Project Initiation and Seeks Writing Group Members to Revise Public Safety Communications Common Incident Types for Data Exchange

APCO International March 1, 2018 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed a Project Initiation with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and has issued a call for participation for writing group members to participate in the revision of the APCO ANS standard for Public Safety Communications Common Incident Types for Data Exchange.

The revision of APCO ANS 2.103.2-201x Public Safety Communications Common Incident Types for Data Exchange will ensure that the standard continues to provide Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Managers with a standard list of incident type codes to facilitate effective incident exchange between Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) PSAPs and other authorized agencies.

“The ability to efficiently share information between disparate PSAPs and other agencies is a critical component of interoperability,” said Martha Carter, President of APCO International.

APCO International is looking for a well-balanced group that will include contributions from technical and operational subject matter experts. The time and day that the writing group will meet are yet to be established.  It is anticipated that the writing group will meet via conference calls bi-weekly for the duration of this project.  Calls typically last no more than one-hour per session.

All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this writing group at Public Safety Communications Common Incident Types for Data Exchange.

Application deadline is April 1, 2018.  Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.
