Meet Your AFC Advisors: Barry Sanford (Kentucky)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Barry Sanford is the APCO Local Frequency Advisor for Kentucky. Barry has been with APCO for just less than a year. He is currently a Project Manager, working for the Kentucky State Police. Barry retired from the KY Army National Guard (Aviation/Avionics) in 2007 with 23 years of service. He also worked for the states analog/digital microwave backbone communications network (Kentucky Emergency Warning System) as a technician/engineer and manager. He is currently working with Kentucky’s FirstNet team to provide outreach and education to public safety stakeholders for the build out of a nationwide public safety LTE broadband network.
Barry’s communication experience’s include upgrading an aging Harris/Farinon analog statewide microwave backhaul system (KEWS) to a new digital IP/MPLS network, installing a statewide mobile data radio system, repair of various state VHF/UHF voice communication systems, telecommunications systems repair, installation and maintenance of both Cisco & Nortel data networks and managing the statewide Nortel First Virtual ATM video conferencing H323/321 network.
Barry has held an FCC General Class license with radar endorsement and is ITIL certified.
