Mutualink Introduces Five New Products that Bring Emergency Communications to the ‘Edge’ with Desktop and Mobile Apps for Public Safety Personnel
Wallingford, Conn., October 15, 2013 – Mutualink, Inc. today announced the commercial availability of five new products that provide a significant expansion of its multimedia communication resource-sharing capabilities that places the power of Mutualink’s interoperable collaboration suite where the users are: in the office, on the road and in the field. Referred to as the Mutualink Edge, they enable secure multimedia communications sessions on desktops, laptops, iPads, and smartphones. Mutualink will demonstrate this capability at IACP 2013 (booth 406), October 19-23.
Mutualink’s communications platform is utilized by hundreds of public safety, emergency management and defense agencies worldwide to enable secure interoperable multimedia communication resource sharing among diverse radio, video, voice, sensory and data platforms. Mutualink Edge extends that capability securely to any desktop in an organization as well as capitalizing on the proliferation of mobile devices like iPads, tablets, smartphones and laptops, to share voice, video, text and data within and among organizations. Security and sovereignty remain central to the Mutualink Edge, with its multi-level encryption and distributed architecture.
Mutualink Edge’s cost-effective architecture and intuitive user interface allow for more efficient utilization of Mutualink’s capabilities within an enterprise, while not sacrificing any of its time-tested value when communicating across multiple agencies.
Mobile multimedia communication sharing scenarios include:
• Police officers in the field with iPads or iPhones sharing live video, GPS location and other real-time info with command and control during a manhunt.
• EMTs using iPads sharing images of accident victims’ injuries to emergency room doctors before the ambulance even arrives at the hospital.
• Security personnel using an Edge-enabled laptop in a mobile vehicle patrolling a sports venue during a large-scale event. No additional equipment is needed in this scenario because of Mutualink’s flexible deployment capability.
• Linemen using smartphones or tablets to communicate with the power plant in real-time from the field, sharing images of downed power lines or other complications, and receiving instructions from HQ.
“Mutualink’s Edge functionality enables agencies to cost-effectively share resources regardless of the type of media, transport mechanism, or device,” said Colin McWay, president of Mutualink. “In effect, Mutualink’s platform goes with the device, and the device goes where the emergency is.”
How it Works
Mutualink’s Edge capability is achieved through a combination of two user-determined applications:
1. [email protected] – available for any desktop or laptop running Windows 7. This provides the full functionality of the command center, allowing the user to securely and efficiently create and manage several sessions simultaneously, without being tied to a specific device.
2. [email protected] – brings Mutualink’s capability into the field. In an emergency situation, users can instantly create a secure collaboration session within the organization. Streamlined functionality and user-friendly design encourages use at all levels of the organization for communication internally or with external parties. This is currently available for iOS devices, with an Android application coming soon.
The @Command and @Hand applications work in conjunction with any one of three different Edge platforms that vary in capacity to meet the needs of small to extremely large organizations. These platforms link secure customer network connections through which @Command and @Hand enabled devices communicate to the rapidly growing Mutualink Interoperable Response and Preparedness Network, the IRAPP, that links hundreds of public agencies and private enterprises together on an as needed, ad hoc basis.
