Training for Active Shooter Events

APCO International July 26, 2012 APCO, Resources

Unfortunately, the deadly shooting in Aurora, Colo., on July 20 is a solemn reminder that all of us who have the potential to take a call such as this, should be  adequately trained and prepare as much as possible prior to an incident of this magnitude. Events such as this may cause communication centers to review their policies and training requirements to make sure that they are  up to date.  Due to this latest incident, the APCO Institute has received several calls inquiring about whether training is available, and we want to inform you that there is.

APCO Institute has a training course designed specifically for Active Shooter Incidents for Public Safety Communications.

One-day courses are being held on these dates:

  • Aug. 22: Concord, N.H.
  • Sept. 3 or 4: Georgetown, Texas
  • Oct. 1: Vero Beach, Fla.
  • Oct. 11: Taylor, Texas
  • Oct. 16: Batavia, N.Y.

The course is also available online and will take three weeks to complete.  Starting dates are: Aug. 22, Sept. 12, Oct. 3 or Nov 7.
