By Brenda Gazzar, San Gabriel Valley Tribune (California)

The San Gabriel police department released Monday the 9-1-1 call reporting former Commerce Secretary John Bryson’s June 9th collision in San Gabriel and Rosemead.

A passenger in a white Buick that was struck by Bryson, who made the call, said “we have a drunk driver that just hit us and fled. He hit us twice, he hit us twice. We’re pursuing him right now.”

The caller then followed Bryson during the 9-1-1 call as he later struck a divider and ultimately another car minutes later in Rosemead.

The passenger in the Buick also told the dispatcher that “my head still hurts from when he hit us.”

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges last week against Bryson, who was involved in collisions in San Gabriel last month.

Bryson, 68, of San Marino was cited for felony hit-and-run by San Gabriel police after being involved in traffic accidents in San Gabriel and Rosemead on June 9. According to the District Attorney’s declination, doctors confirmed the Department of Commerce’s claim that Bryson had a seizure around the time of the accidents.

Bryson’s blood tested negative for alcohol and illegal substances but positive for “therapeutic levels” of Ambien, which is a sedative that requires a prescription and is used for treatment of insomnia.
