TIA Files FCC Comments Supporting CEA, ESA Petitions for ACS Class Waiver

Company Representative July 6, 2012 Product & Service Announcements

ARLINGTON, VA (June 26, 2012) – On Monday, June 25, 2012, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) filed supportive comments with the Federal Communications Commission to two pending Petitions for Waiver from advanced communications services rules that were promulgated pursuant to the passing of the Twenty First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010. TIA fully supports requests from the Consumer Electronics Association for a two-year limited waiver for Internet Protocol-enabled television sets and digital video players, and an eight-year limited waiver for game consoles, both home and handheld, and their peripherals and integrated online networks; game distribution and online game play services; and game software. TIA, specifically noting its agreement with both petitions’ requested waiver time periods accurately reflect market segment product cycles, has been a supportive and collaborative stakeholder in the passage of the CVAA back to 2010, and supports the flexible implementation of regulations pursuant to this landmark legislation, consistent with the intent of Congress.
