Massachusetts: CodeRED Keeps Residents Informed

External News Source June 11, 2012 Industry

TELEGRAM & GAZETTE (Massachusetts)

The town of Northbridge and the Whitinsville Water Co. have contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides Northbridge officials the ability to quickly deliver emergency messages to target specific areas or the entire town.

The Northbridge Police Department encourages all residents and business owners to register their home and cell phones along with email addresses. If your phone number is not entered into the database, you will not be called. CodeRED allows individuals and businesses the ability to add their own home phones, cell phones (which will also allow text messages) and email addresses directly into the system’s data bases. This can be done by logging onto the town of Northbridge’s website, www.northbridgemass.org, or the Police Department website, www.northbridgepolice.com, and clicking on the link to the Code Red. Residents without Internet access are encouraged to have a friend assist them or use the computers in the Whitinsville Library or Senior Center. As a last resort, if these options are a hardship for residents, the Northbridge Dispatch Center will assist residents.

Chief Walter Warchol advises that street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones as well, but it needs to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages. CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes.

In the event a telephone call is made to your phone(s) be advised that the following numbers will appear on your caller ID: (866) 419-5000 (Emergency Caller Communication for emergency calls) or (855) 969-4636 (ECN Community for general information calls).
