Alexandria, Va. – APCO International President Gregg Riddle and Second Vice President Gigi Smith presented distinguished Senators Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John S. McCain (R-Ariz.) with APCO’s 2012 Leadership in Legislative Service Awards during a meeting today on Capitol Hill.

“This special award is reserved for those individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring our nation’s first responders have the tools needed to protect the lives and safety of the American public,” said APCO President Gregg Riddle. “Senators McCain and Lieberman have used their considerable influence to continually champion for the public safety community.”

Said APCO Second Vice President Gigi Smith, “In the true spirit of bipartisanship, Senators Lieberman and McCain jointly introduced the first of a series of bills that led to public safety realizing one of the final outstanding recommendations from the 9/11 Commission: to provide public safety with the spectrum, funding and strong governance structure needed to effectively and efficiently respond to disasters, both large and small. For that, our members truly appreciate their efforts.”
