Sterling Heights, Mich. Police Department Puts New Software to Good Use Solving Crime

Company Representative February 15, 2012 Product & Service Announcements
Fast and easy access to accurate information from New World Systems’ software helps Police locate suspect

Troy, Mich.(February 7, 2012) — New software and technology from New World Systems is providing the Sterling Heights, Mich. Police Department with easy access to critical information that is enhancing investigations. On January 18, 2012, a masked man entered a Sterling Heights pharmacy attempting to get
narcotics. After a brief struggle with the pharmacist the man fled, leaving behind a prescription bottle with a partial name, and a witness able to provide a vehicle description. Sterling Heights Detectives looked up the probable name in state databases but found the suspect’s address to be too far away from the location of the crime. When Detectives ran a Global Name Search using New World’s software, they not only found a match and a local address, but discovered that information on the individual had been updated only 48 hours earlier. Using the address and information from New World’s solution, the Police Department was able to find the house with the vehicle matching the description they received and make an arrest.

“We were very pleased with the accurate information we obtained from New World’s software,” said Detective Sergeant Tom McMullen. “The information that came out of New World’s software was only 48 hours old and helped lead us to the suspect’s current address so we could make an arrest.”

Last year, the Sterling Heights Police Department replaced their public safety system with New World’s Aegis™ Computer Aided Dispatch, Law Enforcement Records Management, Fire Records, Mobile Computing and Field- Based Reporting software. After going live in May, 2011, the Police Department immediately began noticing the benefits of the fully-integrated solution suite, such as the flow of data throughout applications and the availability of accurate information that helped them solve the January 18th attempted robbery. With the new software implemented, the Police Department is also meeting many efficiency goals they set out to achieve, including improved reporting, GIS integration, and much more.

“This implementation was a huge undertaking and it went very smoothly,” said Police Chief Mike Reese. “New World has a great implementation team that worked very well with our IT personnel and others within the Police Department. Even when an issue came up that wasn’t concerning their software New World helped us figure it out. That commitment from the Company’s team is one of the reasons we partnered with New World.”

A former New World customer, when Sterling Heights re-signed with the Company it was important to the Police Department to re-establish the same great relationship with New World that they had in the past.

“Without a doubt, we have the great relationship we were looking for with New World,” said Chief Reese. “The same positive relationship we had before with the Company is still there today. There are so many positive things with New World that will take us well into the future.”
