LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and VANCOUVER, Canada – From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and In Motion Technology announce the first wireless mobile router system available for securely extending the enterprise network to the vehicle over the world’s largest 4G LTE network.  The In Motion Technology onBoard™ system includes a Mobile Gateway that transforms vehicles into secure, mobile hotspots; a network management system that monitors network health and communications; and a mobile-optimized VPN server providing end-to-end security.  Visitors to the Verizon booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #30259) can watch a live video, data and voice demonstration using Verizon’s 4G LTE network between the booth and the Verizon LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass.

In Motion Technology is widely deployed in public safety, public transit and utilities, and will be demonstrating how its onBoard™ Mobile Gateway can be used in ambulances.  By securely connecting laptops, tablets, electrocardiograms (EKGs), Electronic Patient Care Reporting (EPCR), IP cameras, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and vehicle diagnostic systems, the onBoard Mobile Gateway will improve operational efficiency for emergency responders.  The onBoard™ Mobility Manager enables operations to analyze information from Gateways in the field via a dashboard showing locations, direction and speed, and monitors vehicle diagnostics, devices and networks.  The onBoard™ Connection Manager provides secure IP mobility and sub-second switching in a multi-network environment.

“We are pleased that our mission critical customers now have the opportunity to do business using the Verizon 4G LTE network.  We believe that 4G LTE will revolutionize mobile-centric businesses by enabling improved real-time collaboration.  In the case of EMS, 4G LTE provides real-time sharing of video, voice and data that can have a dramatic impact on patient outcomes,” said Kirk Moir, president and chief operating officer for In Motion Technology.

Verizon Wireless leads the way in 4G with the largest 4G LTE network and most reliable 4G network in the United States, which now covers more than 200 million people in 190 markets.

Verizon established its Innovation Program to encourage collaboration and help advance the 4G LTE ecosystem.  The company’s LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., and its Application Innovation Center in San Francisco were created to inspire, enable and develop non-traditional devices, services and applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ industry-leading wireless networks.  Through the Innovation Program, Verizon seeks to expand the possibilities of 4G LTE by working with diverse companies, from start-ups to established players, in industries representing a broad range of verticals.

In Motion Technology and Verizon Wireless have been working together at the Innovation Center to demonstrate the power of the Verizon 4G LTE network for voice and video applications and situational awareness in a mobile ER environment.
