Can 9-1-1 Call Crack 20-Year-Old Murder Mystery?

Sun-Times Media Wire

Twenty years to the day after Jamie Santos was strangled to death in her northwest suburban home, her murder remains unsolved. Now, Wheeling police have released a mysterious 911 call from that night hoping anyone with information will come forward.

Santos, a 27-year-old exotic dancer who performed under the name “Sasha,” was found partially clothed and unconscious at her apartment.

Officers found her about 11:35 a.m. on Oct. 28, 1991, after a male who did not identify himself called 911 to get her medical help.

Twenty years later, police still don’t know the identity of the caller, and can’t say if he is responsible for the woman’s death or someone who “simply came across a terrible crime,” a police press release said.

The man placed the call from a public phone in a shopping center a few blocks from the woman’s home.

Wheeling police have posted an audio file of the 911 call to their website in hopes of identifying the caller.

In it, he warns that the woman is not breathing and “turning blue” but does not respond when operators ask him when he was at the house.

Additional Information:
Police are asking that anyone with information about the caller or the murder to contact Wheeling Police Department at 847-459-2632. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for the positive identification of the caller.
