CosmiCube Launches SF Heroes with San Francisco Department of Emergency Management

Company Representative October 26, 2011 Product & Service Announcements

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oct. 20, 2011 – CosmiCube, San Francisco’s distinguished iPhone, iPad and Android mobile application development provider, today announced the launch of SF Heroes, a free emergency preparedness-focused mobile application created in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (SFDEM).  SF Heroes uses game mechanics to educate, motivate, inform and reward people for learning about how to be prepared for emergencies.  It also provides users with information about city resources that residents, commuters and visitors may need to access in the event of a disaster.  SF Heroes is available today in the iTunes store.

Built by CosmiCube on their powerful REACH Platform, SF Heroes connects with Facebook, Twitter and other social channels.  SF Heroes entertains and inspires people to take steps to prepare – such as develop a family emergency communications plan or learn where critical city services are – by tying rewards and social incentives to meaningful real-life activities.

“SF Heroes showcases how the REACH Platform affects real world change,” said Carla Riggi, co-founder and CEO, CosmiCube. “Using mobile technology and gamification to educate and motivate people is a new trend, especially in government. SF Heroes combines social incentives, reward mechanisms, game mechanics, direct action and education into an entertaining experience.”

“SF Heroes represents a new and innovative approach to getting our residents more prepared for any type of emergency,” said Anne Kronenberg, Executive Director of SFDEM.  “One of the most important features of the application is the ability to use the emergency resources map and contact lists without being connected to the Internet.  All you need is a cell phone with battery power, and you’ll have direct access to vital information during an emergency.”

Designed from the ground-up by CEO Carla Riggi for mobile gamification and content management, CosmiCube’s REACH Platform motivates compliance across large organizations or cities in an entirely new way. The platform helps organizations inspire people on a personal level by integrating custom rewards with social media, fun activities and fresh information.

About SF Heroes
There are seven different SF Heroes modules that  the public can interact and have fun with. They include an evergreen emergency services map, location and event check-ins, social connections, educational quizzes, personal contacts, motivational check lists, and a leaderboard to compare achievements with friends. Family, friends and neighbors compete via social channels and earn badges that they can display or highlight as an accomplishment.

SF Heroes, via the REACH Platform, unifies messaging from across a vast number of important city services in an evergreen and fun way. San Francisco can now leverage the platform to address not only messaging from disaster relief organizations, the Red Cross or NERT, but also to teach and motivate participation in more general “resilience” objectives such as the city’s Green initiatives.

SF Heroes is the product of a public/private partnership between the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management and CosmiCube, Inc.
