Intrado Supports FCC Next-Generation 9-1-1 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

Company Representative October 5, 2011 Product & Service Announcements

LONGMONT, Colo., Oct 05, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — On September 22, 2011, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) held an open meeting during which the framework for, and acceleration of, next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) development and deployment was discussed. As expected, the FCC adopted a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on, among other topics, NG9-1-1 technology that will enable the public to send emergency communications to public safety answering points (PSAPs) via text, photos, videos and data.

“Intrado applauds the FCC’s interest in emergency text messaging and the agency’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of NG9-1-1 technology and will continue to support the FCC’s efforts by sharing our knowledge and experience about these important subjects,” said Craig Donaldson, senior vice president of Regulatory and Government Affairs for Intrado. “Additional work remains to allow the widespread ability of PSAPs to receive photos, videos and enhanced data. Clearly the FCC understands the importance of keeping enhancements top of mind so that public safety agencies can vigorously meet the growing expectations of their communities.”
