Intrado Reaches Next-Generation 9-1-1 Milestone
LONGMONT, Colo., Sept. 22, 2011 — Intrado Inc., a subsidiary of West Corporation and a leading provider of 9-1-1 technology solutions, reached a milestone this week with over 300 next-generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems either deployed or in progress. Long a leader in public safety communications, the company has been driving the adoption of NG9-1-1 technology for the past several years.
In 2009, Intrado deployed the nation’s first 9-1-1 text messaging service with Black Hawk County, Iowa and most recently enabled the launch of a text trial with the City of Durham. (Durham 9-1-1 Center Launches Texting Trial for Emergency Help) Intrado also announced that it has teamed with the City of Durham to launch North Carolina’s first NG9-1-1 network.
“With hundreds of NG9-1-1 installations already completed or in progress, Intrado has established itself as the industry leader in the deployment of advanced technology that improves public safety,” said Joe Hernandez, senior vice president for Intrado.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected to hold an open meeting on the framework for NG9-1-1 and other topics later this morning. This meeting and subsequent actions by the FCC will likely generate considerable dialog and debate within the public safety community about the future of NG9-1-1.
