Public Safety Communications Announces First-Ever People’s Choice Award

Public Safety Communications August 18, 2011 APCO, Product & Service Announcements, Technology
Smart911 2.0 to be featured in November issue

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.: Public Safety Communications (PSC), a monthly publication published by Elsevier Public Safety on behalf of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, announces the selection of the first-ever People’s Choice Award. Smart911 2.0, displayed in the New Product Pavilion at APCO’s annual conference, was given the award during the 77th Annual APCO International Conference & Expo in Philadelphia and will be featured in the November issue of PSC.

Seven companies submitted nine products for consideration in the premiere People’s Choice opportunity. Presentations of the products were conducted on site at the APCO Conference, and attendees voted for their favorite product. The People’s Choice Award went to Rave Mobile Safety’s Smart911 2.0.

Smart911 is a public safety solution that allows citizens to enter personal safety information online, which is then automatically available to a 9-1-1 calltaker in the event the citizen calls 9-1-1. The latest version of Smart911 will provide additional language options for citizens and enables simple registration through Facebook, making it even easier for citizens to register for the free service. Smart911 2.0 also features advanced reporting, allowing PSAPs to analyze and benchmark their performance against similar PSAPs in their region or across the U.S. The latest version includes multi-lingual registration and account management sites, and fields for pet information and additional photos, such as a home photo, to further assist first responders in citizen response.

Conference attendees liked the fact that citizens must confirm the information every six months or the notification will automatically be suppressed in the CAD system, relieving the public safety answering point of the responsibility of maintaining the information.
