South San Francisco will add Pacifica to its 911 emergency coverage.

The South San Francisco City Council approved an agreement Wednesday night to provide police dispatching to Pacifica, which can’t continue the service because of budget cuts.

The three-year pact will pay South San Francisco about $612,000 annually, according to a city staff report.

For Pacifica, outsourcing dispatch will bring annual savings of about $280,000. Giving up the service is part of a budget that slashes $1.5 million in the 2011-12 fiscal year.

South San Francisco already dispatches for Colma during late-night and early-morning hours as well as certain holidays.
