Cassidian Communications Provides Gaston County, N.C., 9-1-1 Communications Center with Proven Emergency Call Processing Solution

Temecula, Calif., June 15, 2011¾Emergency communications leader Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, announced today the implementation of its next generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Sentinel® Patriot® call processing solution within the Gaston County, N.C., Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center by communications solutions integrator, Wireless Communications.

The Sentinel Patriot solution’s IP architecture, designed expressly for NG9-1-1 applications, is based on current and evolving critical communications technologies and standards. This provides the Gaston County 9-1-1 Center with sophisticated backup, disaster recovery and overflow operations with the assured ability to provide reliable service under unexpected conditions. The deployment model provides maximum system survivability and the efficient network design minimizes data traffic and bandwidth usage for ongoing cost savings.

The Gaston County Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center is a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional center with 14 call-taking positions situated to receive emergency and administrative calls as well as dispatch them to the county’s police, fire and emergency medical service agencies. In 2010, the Gaston County Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center received 473,777 emergency and administrative calls, of which 126,697 of the calls were for 9-1-1 emergencies.

The third-largest county by population in North Carolina with more than 208,000 citizens, Gaston County is west of the Charlotte metropolitan area and encompasses more than 356 square miles.
