Intrado & AristaTek Partner to Enhance Public Safety by Providing Hazardous Materials & Explosives Information to 9-1-1 Centers

AristaTek certified to join the Intrado Next-Generation 9-1-1 Data Partner Program

Longmont, Colo., April 26, 2011 — Intrado Inc., a leading provider of 9-1-1 technology solutions, today announced that it is teaming with AristaTek, Inc. to provide 9-1-1 centers with critical information that will enable first responders to better protect themselves, the public and property during hazmat and improvised explosive device (IED) incidents.

AristaTek has been certified to join the growing Intrado A9-1-1SM Alliance Member Program, a managed service program designed to upgrade the capabilities of 9-1-1 centers by delivering a broader set of life-saving features. The program creates an open marketplace for companies to significantly improve 9-1-1 responsiveness and throughput by integrating their solutions with Intrado, using open standard interfaces.

“We’re pleased to certify AristaTek as the newest member of our data partner program and look forward to working with them to provide

9-1-1 centers with critical information about hazmat and potential IED incidents,” said Joe Hernandez, senior vice president for Intrado. “The Intrado A9-1-1 Alliance Member Program dramatically improves situational awareness by delivering gunshot detection, premise data, hazmat information and other critical data directly to the appropriate 9-1-1 center.”

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), more than four billion tons of hazardous materials are shipped each year. In 2010, the National Response Center, supported by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), reported more than 32,000 incidents involving discharges of oil or hazardous material spills occurred that year.

An emergency call for an explosion or bomb threat takes place nearly every other day in the United States, according to the National Response Center. This does not take into account the ever increasing responses to suspicious packages or vehicles that are thought to be possible IED’s that happen frequently due to the public’s increased awareness of potential terrorist events.

Responding to both types of incidents requires first responders to be armed with the best possible information to prevent an incident from becoming a disaster.

“Hazmat and IED incidents are among the most dangerous and potentially devastating incidents our courageous first responders can face,” said C. Scott Bunning, director of marketing and sales for AristaTek. “Our alliance with Intrado will allow us to provide in-depth hazmat and explosives data directly to 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers who can easily share the information with police, fire, EMS, bomb squads and hazmat response professionals.”

“During an incident,” Bunning added, “when seconds count, our comprehensive database of hazardous substances and our ability to quickly map stand-off distances will flow instantaneously through Intrado’s advanced 9-1-1 infrastructure to 9-1-1 centers. The availability of this information will enable first responders to quickly make informed and safe decisions that could save more lives, protect the environment and prevent property damage.”

About AristaTek
Formed in 1999 by four chemists and engineers who conducted field scale research studies at the Nevada Test Site’s Hazmat Spill Center (HSC) mandated by the 1986 Superfund and Reauthorization Act (SARA) and the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) during the 1990’s, AristaTek has become the leading provider of CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives) decision-support software to the civilian, military and commercial responders’ market.  The PEAC-WMD software, AristaTek’s flagship product, assists in hazmat response efforts by consolidating CBRNE technical reference sources and automating stand-off distance modeling and communication of CBRNE incident data. PEAC is the industry-standard in the CBRNE response community, supporting critical CBRNE units such as the National Guard Civil Support Teams (CST), the United States Air Force (USAF) and countless civilian responders worldwide.  AristaTek is a certified HUBZone business.
