Tait to Provide P25 Trunked Simulcast System in Washington

Grant County upgrades to a narrowband-compliant TaitNet public safety communications solution

Houston, March 11, 2011 — Tait Radio Communications, a global leader in providing radio solutions, has been awarded the contract to provide the Multi-Agency Communications Center (MACC) in Grant County, WA, an 11-site 800 MHz P25 trunked simulcast public safety radio communications solution.

The contract also features an 11-site VHF QS2 conventional simulcast network and services which include training, system installation and project management.  Tait will provide seamless migration from the county’s current analog radio network. The new system also enables migration to P25 phase 2.

The radio systems are being paid for with a $9 million bond approved by the Grant County commissioners earlier this year. The county borrowed the money partially to meet a Jan. 1, 2013, federal deadline to narrowband MACC’s radio system.

“We were planning to do the project in three phases, but Tait’s bid enables the entire project to be rolled out at the once,” says Dean Hane, Radio Communications Manager for MACC.

“We require a highly reliable, fault-tolerant system which will meet current needs and provide a growth path for future expansion. The Tait Radio Communications proposal delivers these benefits and we look forward to a new radio solution that will provide communications to all our users,” concludes Dean.

Steve Cragg, President, Tait Radio Communications, Americas Region says, “This multi-vendor solution is an excellent showcase of P25 technology being used to its full capability as an open standard, enabling agencies to get the best system for their money now and in the future.  MACC’s new system incorporates components from several manufacturers, including Tait’s own P25-CAP-tested base stations, ensuring the organization will not be locked in to one vendor for the life of their system.”

The proposed systems have been configured to support both IP and T1 connections between the sites utilizing the new microwave network infrastructure just installed by MACC. The console system will be upgraded to a new IP-based console Scout system from Avtec using the P25 CSSI interface to the Tait network.
