CommandScope Emergency Pre-Plan Program Protects Three Chicago High-Rise Buildings

Company Representative December 16, 2010 Product & Service Announcements
Life-safety program from RealView delivers critical & immediate information to first responders

Chicago — RealView, LLC, a Microsoft Partner providing mobile inspection and emergency pre-plan programs for office buildings, fire departments, hospitality, education and others announced today that three additional hi-rise buildings in downtown Chicago have subscribed to its CommandScope Emergency Pre-Plan Program. The three landmark buildings include the John Hancock Center, Manulife Financial’s 191 North Wacker Drive and 625 North Michigan Avenue.

According to the National Fire Protection Association’s “Fire Loss In The United States During 2009” report, more than 450,000 structure fires occurred in the United States in 2009, causing more than $10.8 billion in damage and more than 2,500 fire fatalities. Designed to combat these incidents with advance strategy and actionable information, the CommandScope Program is accessible in each prominent building through touch screen computers in their lobby security areas, and includes floor plans, construction details, fire protection information, photographs and much more. In the event of an emergency, it provides first responders with building knowledge rather than causing them to respond by “trial” and “error.” The data is also on the Office of Emergency Management Communications (OEMC) and the Chicago Fire Department Command Van Computers.

Included in the three latest implementations is the John Hancock Center, a landmark mixed-use complex and long-time Chicago architectural icon managed by Thomas Kienzle, Jr. of Golub Realty Services. Completed in 1970, the building is currently comprised of office space, retail, residential, radio and TV broadcast facilities and a 94th floor observatory. In a proactive measure, the John Hancock Center has also installed a touch screen computer in their lobby security area with the CommandScope Program that provides the critical building information necessary for first responders in the event of a fire or emergency.

Manulife Financial’s 191 North Wacker Drive location is a 37-story office tower with just under one million square feet of rentable space managed by Deborah Tomlin of Manulife. The building recently received the BOMA 360 Designation, which is an exclusive award recognizing outstanding achievement in building operations and management from the Building Owners and Managers Association, and is also a 2010 TOBY Award winner. The location utilizes CommandScope to improve operations, security and tenant safety in case of emergency. Vital building information is available to first responders on the lobby’s touch screen and other computers throughout the building.

Additionally, CommandScope by RealView was adopted by 625 North Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile. Managed by Diane Kerr of Golub Realty Services, the high-traffic structure was constructed in 1970 and comprises 391,730 square feet on 27 stories, including offices, retail and dining areas. The CommandScope Program will ensure safety for all tenants within the building and enables first responders access to building construction details, fire protection information, utility shutoff locations, hazardous material data, individual floor plans and much more on touch screen computers in the lobby security area.

“High-rise building managers are increasingly realizing the significant intelligence and safety they can add to their buildings with a single, comprehensive solution,” says Stephen Nardi, President of RealView. “We designed CommandScope as a turn-key program to give management and first responders an unprecedented degree of awareness and control. Our technology, including lobby touch screens and remote computers, delivers vital intelligence in real-time to enable more timely and effective action.”

In addition to CommandScope, the John Hancock Center and 625 North Michigan also utilize RealView’s Mobile Inspection Program on a tablet computer for paperless building inspections electronically on-site. The program aids in green initiatives and allows inspectors to upload inspection conditions, sketches, floor plans and photographs from the field. It takes a once paper-based, multi-stepped process into a one-step, real-time inspection. The program can also send “Alerts” via e-mail to designated building personnel for emergency repair or maintenance items requiring immediate attention. It will also interface with the building’s electronic Work Order systems.
