Lansing (Ill.) PD Deploys New World Systems’ Integrated Public Safety Software Solutions

Company Representative November 15, 2010 Product & Service Announcements
New software means less paperwork, more access to information & advanced mapping capabilities for the entire police department

Troy, Mich. — The Village of Lansing, Ill., Police Department has replaced a legacy system with modern technology and solutions from a leader in Public Safety software. On November 1, 2010, the Police Department officially switched over from their old software to New World Systems’ Aegis Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft platform. The new solutions are now automating processes, giving officers and dispatchers more access to information and mapping capabilities and making paperwork a thing of the past.

After a thorough review and evaluation of available solutions last year, the Police Department partnered with New World and selected the Company’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management, Mobile Computing and Field-based Reporting software developed in-house using proven Microsoft technology, industry-standard Windows Server and SQL Server. A combination of the software’s advanced functionality and embedded GIS mapping capabilities and New World’s financial stability and customer service reputation made the company a perfect fit for the Lansing Police Department.

“New World displays a confidence in their product, dependability and a willingness to work with agencies to ensure their needs are met,” said Police Chief Dennis Murrin. “During our evaluation we had a good feeling that the Company would be with us through thick and thin. After hearing positive feedback from other local area agencies, we knew we were making the right choice with New World.”

According to Chief Murrin, New World’s Professional Services and Support teams exceeded their expectations, working closely with the dedicated staff from the Police Department to configure the software, train users and bring the solutions live in under a year.

New World’s completely integrated solutions are now storing critical crime and incident information in a single location for the Police Department, making it easier to access by officers in the field, dispatchers, investigators and command staff. Field-based Reporting is allowing patrol officers to complete and submit incident reports electronically from their vehicles, allowing them to stay in the community instead of returning to the station to fill out paper forms.

Embedded GIS Mapping capabilities and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) within New World’s software are providing dispatchers and officers with more location information than ever before. According to Chief Murrin, knowing the whereabouts of each patrol unit in the community is key to improving officer safety. The new mapping capabilities will also make it possible for the Police Department to analyze crime statistics based on locations in the Village, allowing them to better deploy their officers to keep the community safe.

“No other project has had such a multi-dimensional impact on our Police Department,” said Chief Murrin. “New World’s software has a positive effect on everybody who works here, from the dispatchers who receive a call to patrol officers on the street and back to our evidence and property personnel. It even offers huge benefits to our residents.”

In addition to providing more information to officers and dispatchers, New World’s solutions will also make it possible for the Police Department to extract and present safety and crime information to the Village’s population of more than 29,000 residents.

“We’re thrilled to see the Lansing Police Department going “live” this month after such a smooth and successful implementation, and to be adding them to the growing list of public safety agencies in Illinois and across the country who rely on New World’s solutions,” said Mark Prevost, Vice President of Marketing for New World. “A lengthy and diligent search led the Lansing Police Department to replace their outdated legacy system with New World’s industry leading and completely integrated public safety solutions built on modern technology. We congratulate everyone from the department who worked tirelessly and with great expertise to make this event a reality. It will mark the beginning of a very long partnership between New World and another outstanding group of public servants in the great state of Illinois.”
