FCC to Hold Speaker Series Event Featuring The National Institute of Standards & Technology’s Office of Law Enforcement Standards

Aug., 17, 2010, Washington, D.C.—The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) today announced it will hold a Speaker Series event to discuss the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST’s) role in improving public safety communications. The event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, from 10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room (TW-C305).

The event will focus on NIST’s role in developing and implementing standards for public safety communications and its partnership with PSHSB’s Emergency Response Interoperability Center (ERIC). Dereck Orr, Program Manger for Public Safety Communications in NIST’s Office of Law Enforcement Standards, will be the featured speaker.

The workshop will be open to the public; however, admittance will be limited to the seating available. Those individuals who are interested in attending this event may pre-register online at http://www.fcc.gov/pshs/event-registration.html. Those who pre-register will be asked to provide their name, title, organization affiliation, and contact information.  Individuals may also contact Deandrea Wilson at [email protected] or via phone at 202/418-0703 regarding pre-registration.  The deadline for pre-registration is Friday, Aug. 27, 2010.

Audio/Video coverage of the meeting will be broadcast live with open captioning over the Internet from the FCC’s Web page at www.fcc.gov/live. The FCC’s webcast is free to the public and does not require pre-registration.
