Pinellas County, Fla., Improves Fire Station Alerting
January 24, 2013Being awakened in the middle of a deep sleep by an urgent fire station alerting tone is never fun. But research indicates it could have serious effects on firefighters’ health, too. Although alerting is a necessary component of fire station life, one county is exploring ways it can be customized so that crews are only woken or notified when they’re truly needed to respond.

CDC: 1 in 24 Admit Nodding Off While Driving
January 3, 2013NEW YORK (AP) — This could give you nightmares: 1 in 24 U.S. adults say they recently fell asleep while driving. The government estimates that about 3 percent of fatal traffic crashes involve drowsy drivers, but other estimates have put that number as high as 33 percent.
