Meet Your AFC Advisors: Jesse Griggs (Tennessee)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Please feel free to reach out to our local advisors with any questions dealing with FCC Part 90 licensing and frequency coordination.
Jesse Griggs received his formal electronics training in the U.S. Navy where he was an aviation electronic technician. After he left the Navy, he went back to work with the Tennessee Department of Correction. Jesse held the following positions: correctional officer, correctional corporal, correctional sergeant, training specialist, radio communications technician 2, radio communications 3 and correctional program support coordinator- coordinator of communications and utilities. He retired with 37 years of service.
One of the things Jesse is most proud of is that he built a P25 Radio System that is part of a 3 system statewide radio communication system. He also founded the department’s radio repair center that grew from a one man operation to modern shop with 3 full time technicians who trouble shoot and repair down the component, manage the Middle Tennessee Master Switch and maintain approximately 5000 radios with plans to expand an additional 1,000 radios for the community services (Parden and Parole) officers.
Jesse is also the chair of the Region 39 (Tennessee) in the 700 and 800 Planning Committees. He is an APCO frequency advisor, a member of Region IV Regional Emergency Communications Committee Working Group, a Communication Unit Leader (COML), a Communication Unit Leader Trainer and he is also the National Regional Planning Committee Director of the Southern Region.
