Meet Your AFC Advisors: Ralph Bevan (Georgia)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Please feel free to reach out to our local advisors with any questions dealing with FCC Part 90 licensing and frequency coordination.
Ralph Bevan has worked for 37 years in the Communications field, starting with his training and service in the Air Force Worldwide Communication System from 1979-1983. After leaving the Air Force, Ralph spent seven years in his home state of Florida working for the Florida Highway Patrol – first headquartering in Tallahassee for a year with Troop H before transferring to Palatka and working with Troop G Communication as a Tech II maintaining communication systems. He also traveled the state as needed and occasionally filled in as a dispatcher.
In June 1990, Ralph moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to take a Tech III Lead position with the State of Georgia, Department of Administrative Services. His duties included special projects for all state law enforcement but his primary duties were maintaining 74 sites for the statewide full simulcast paging system. A highlight of Ralph’s career was working communications for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he had to live on-site for almost 6 weeks, and the 1998 G8 Summit.
However, in 2008, the paging system was shut down and Ralph transitioned to his current job as State Frequency Coordinator and APCO Advisor. He now serves as the Region 10 700/800 MHZ Region Planning Committee (RPC) Vice Chairperson, and as Region 10 RPC 700/800 MHZ Technical Committee Chairperson.
