Meet Your AFC Advisors: Richard E. Ranson (Alabama)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Richard E. Ranson (KD9Q) is currently the UAPD Radio Systems Administrator & Intercollegiate Athletics Gameday Frequency Coordinator at The University of Alabama, the Society of Broadcast Engineers Frequency Coordinator for Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and serves on the Alabama Interoperable Radio System (AIRS) Board of Directors. He also serves on the Alabama First Responder Wireless Commission P25 Systems Administrators Subcommittee and is Vice Chairman of the 800 MHZ Regional Planning Committee and Treasurer of the 700 MHZ Regional Planning Committee.
He has served since 2011 as the APCO Primary Local Advisor for the State of Alabama for public safety frequency coordination, and since 2008 as the Society of Broadcast Engineers Frequency Coordinator for Tuscaloosa . He also serves as a committee member for the Motorola Trunked Users Group Subscriber Technical Subcommittee. In 2015 Mr. Ranson has over 20 years working in the wireless industry having previously worked as Senior Broadcast Engineer at The University of Alabama, as a contract RF Engineer specializing in interference mitigation, and as Field Engineer with Nextel Partners, Inc. He currently resides in Northport, Alabama.
